Speed ramp video maker

Drop a video and pick the moment that matters. The video rushes in, slows to a quarter speed through that moment with smooth AI frames, and speeds back up to normal. You download it as an MP4.

Drop a video

Then pick the moment to slow down. Without signing in, the moment is in the first 10 seconds, and only they are uploaded.

How to make a speed ramp

  1. Add your video

Drop a video in the box above. It opens on the page, so you can scrub through it.

  2. Pick the moment

Scrub to the moment to slow down: a jump, a kick, a turn, a splash. Without signing in, the moment is in the first 10 seconds.

  3. Make the ramp

The video plays at 1.75x up to the moment, eases down to a quarter speed through it, and eases back up to normal speed. AI makes the new frames of the slow part.

  4. Download or edit

Download the MP4, or open the video in the Vidova editor to ramp several moments on the beat of a song.

Frequently asked questions

What is a speed ramp?

A speed ramp changes the speed of one clip while it plays. The clip runs fast, slows down through one moment, and speeds up again, and the speed changes smoothly instead of in a jump. Editors use it to make one action stand out, such as the top of a jump or the moment a ball is hit.

How is a speed ramp different from slow motion?

Slow motion slows the whole clip, so it gets much longer. A speed ramp slows only the moment and plays the rest fast or at normal speed, so the moment stands out and the video stays short. For slow motion of a whole clip, use the AI slow motion tool.

How does AI speed ramping work?

A clip slowed to a quarter speed shows each real frame about four times, so the motion stutters. AI frame interpolation makes new frames between the real ones, so the slow part plays at a full 30 frames a second. The fast part gets motion blur instead of skipped frames.

Is the speed ramp tool free?

Yes. Without signing in you can make 2 speed ramps a day from the first 10 seconds of a video, and the video has the Vidova mark. With a Vidova account, the ramp uses up to 20 seconds of your video around the moment and uses the credits of your plan.

How long is the video it makes?

From 10 seconds of video you get between about 7 and 12.5 seconds. The fast start makes the video shorter and the slow moment makes it longer, so the length depends on where the moment is.

What happens to the sound?

The speed ramp has no sound, because speech and music slowed to a quarter speed sound wrong. In the editor you can put a song under it and land the slow moment on a beat.

Which videos work best?

One continuous shot with one clear action: a jump, a trick, a kick, a pour, a hair flip. Fast motion with heavy blur, or things that pass in front of each other, can show soft edges in the new frames.
