How to add animated captions to a video
Pick a style
Choose one of the 13 caption styles. They are the styles the captions in the Vidova editor use: karaoke colours, outlines, pills and a box under the spoken word.
Add your video
Drop a vertical or a wide video in the box above. Without signing in, a video can be up to 60 seconds long. A longer video is cut to its first 60 seconds on your device, and a large file is made smaller before it is uploaded.
Correct the words
Speech to text writes down every word with its time, in short lines. Play the video and fix names, brands and words that were heard wrong. The corrected words take the time of the words they replace.
Burn them in and download
Choose Burn in the captions. Vidova renders the video with the captions in the picture, timed to each spoken word. Download the MP4, or open the video in the editor to change the captions.
Frequently asked questions
Is the caption tool free?
Yes. Without signing in you can caption a video 5 times a day, for videos up to 60 seconds. The video is 720p and has the Vidova mark. With a Vidova account, a video can be up to 10 minutes long and uses the credits of your plan. Paid plans export at 1080p without the mark.
Which caption styles can I use?
All 13 styles of the captions in the Vidova editor, such as karaoke lime, bold outline, pink pill and studio. Most styles light each word as it is spoken. Outlined, bold outline and minimal keep every word white.
Where do the captions go on a vertical video?
On a vertical video, the captions sit above the lower part of the frame, where TikTok, Reels and Shorts show their buttons and the post text. On a wide video, they sit near the bottom.
Can I correct the words before they are burned in?
Yes. Every line shows after the words are written down. Change any word, delete words or write a line again. Nothing is burned in until you choose Burn in the captions.
Is my video uploaded?
Yes. Speech to text and the render run in the cloud, so the video is uploaded. A video uploaded without signing in is deleted a day later.
Can I change the font, size or colours?
Open the video in the editor. Your video and your corrected captions open in a new project, and you can change the font, size, colours and place of the captions there, or ask the agent to do it.
