Split video by scenes

Drop an edited video. Vidova finds every cut and fade and lists the scenes between them. Download each scene as its own MP4 file, or the cut list as a CSV file.

Drop a video

Up to 60 seconds without signing in. Only a small copy of the picture is uploaded. Your browser cuts the scenes.

How to split a video into scenes

  1. Add your video

Drop a video in the box above, or choose it. Without signing in, a video can be up to 60 seconds long. Your browser makes a small copy of the picture, and only that copy is uploaded.

  2. Wait for the scenes

A shot detection model reads every frame and marks where one shot ends and the next starts: hard cuts, and dissolves and fades.

  3. Check the scenes

Each scene shows a picture, its start and end and its length. Play a scene to check where it starts.

  4. Download the parts

Download one scene or all of them as MP4 files. Your browser cuts them from your own file, at its full size. Or download the cut list as a CSV file with times and timecodes.

Frequently asked questions

Is the scene splitter free?

Yes. Without signing in you can split 5 videos a day, each up to 60 seconds long. With a Vidova account, a video can be up to 30 minutes long and uses the credits of your plan.

What does it find?

Hard cuts, where one shot changes to the next from one frame to the next, and gradual transitions such as dissolves and fades. A fade starts its new scene in its middle.

Is my video uploaded?

Only a small copy of the picture is, 320 pixels on its long side and with no sound. The scene parts are cut from your own file in your browser. A file uploaded without signing in is deleted a day later.

What is in the cut list?

One line a scene: its number, its start, end and length in seconds, its start and end as timecodes at the video's frame rate, and whether a cut or a fade starts it.

Why did a part not download?

Your browser cuts the parts with its own video codecs. Some browsers cannot read some files. Try an MP4 file, or a recent Chrome, Edge or Safari.

Does it work on raw footage?

It finds changes of shot. A raw clip from a camera is one shot, so it has one scene. It works best on videos that are already edited, such as vlogs, compilations and ads.
