Up to 60 seconds without signing in. Only the sound is uploaded. The picture stays on your device.

How to make subtitles for a video

  1. Add your video

Drop a video or a sound file in the box above, or choose it. Without signing in, a file can be up to 60 seconds long. Your browser reads the sound, and only the sound is uploaded.

  2. Wait for the subtitles

Speech to text writes every word with its time. The words are grouped into short lines that are easy to read on a phone.

  3. Correct the lines

Play the video and read each line. Fix names, numbers and words that were heard wrong. You can delete a line or add one after it.

  4. Download or edit

Download an SRT or a WebVTT file, or put the subtitles on the video in the Vidova editor, where you pick their style and export the video with them.

Frequently asked questions

Is the subtitle generator free?

Yes. Without signing in you can make subtitles 5 times a day, for files up to 60 seconds. With a Vidova account, a file can be up to 30 minutes long and uses the credits of your plan.

What is the difference between SRT and VTT?

Both are text files with numbered lines and their start and end times. SRT is the older format that most video players and editors read. WebVTT (VTT) is the format web video players use. YouTube takes both.

Is my video uploaded?

Only its sound is. Your browser takes the sound out of the video and uploads it as a small audio file. The picture stays on your device. A file uploaded without signing in is deleted a day later.

Which languages does it understand?

Speech to text finds the language that is spoken and writes the subtitles in that language. Check names and special words, because speech recognition can mishear them in any language.

How do I put the subtitles on the video?

Choose Put them on the video in the editor. Your video opens in a new Vidova project, and the Vidova agent adds the subtitles as captions in the picture. You can then change their style and export the video for TikTok, Reels or YouTube.

Can I add subtitles to a longer video?

Yes. Sign in to make subtitles for files up to 30 minutes long here, or open the video in the editor and ask the agent to add captions.
