Safe zone checker for Reels, TikTok and Shorts

Drop a vertical video or a screenshot. The checker shows where TikTok, Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts draw their buttons and captions, and tells you when text or a logo sits under them. Your file stays on your device.

Drop a vertical video or a screenshot

It stays on your device. Nothing is uploaded.

How to check the safe zones of a video

  1. Add your video

Drop a vertical video or a screenshot of a frame in the box above, or choose the file. MP4, MOV and WebM videos and PNG and JPEG pictures work in most browsers.

  2. Pick the app

Choose TikTok, Reels or Shorts. The tinted areas are the parts of the screen that app covers with its header, its buttons and the post caption.

  3. Read the result

The checker reads frames across the whole video. Each app shows the areas where text or other sharp detail sits under its interface, and the times it does. Red squares in the preview mark that detail.

  4. Fix and check again

Move or shrink the text that sits in a covered area, export again, and drop the new file. When you post to all three apps, keep text inside the Shorts safe area, because Shorts covers the most on every side.

Frequently asked questions

What is a safe zone?

TikTok, Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts play your video full screen and draw their own interface on top: the app header, the account name, the post caption, the sound line and the like, comment and share buttons. The safe zone is the area they leave clear. Text or a face outside it can be hidden or hard to read.

What sizes does the checker use?

On a 1080 × 1920 video, TikTok covers 130 px at the top, 320 px at the bottom, 44 px on the left and 140 px on the right. Reels covers 108, 320, 60 and 120 px. Shorts covers 180, 380, 60 and 150 px. The apps do not publish exact maps for normal posts. These are the margins Vidova uses, compared with published overlay templates in August 2026.

Is my video uploaded?

No. The checker reads your file in your browser. Nothing is sent to Vidova or anywhere else.

How does it find text?

It scales each frame down and looks for sharp edges, which text, logos and outlines make. A covered area with many sharp edges is flagged. A busy background can be flagged too, so look at the red squares in the preview before you change the video.

My video is not vertical. Does it still work?

Yes. The apps fill a 9:16 screen and cut what does not fit, so a 16:9 video loses its sides. The preview shows the part of your video that stays on screen, and the check reads only that part.

Are the safe zones for ads the same?

No. Ads add a sponsored label and a call-to-action button, so more of the bottom is covered. Meta's ad guide for Reels asks you to keep 14% of the top, 35% of the bottom and 6% of each side free of text and logos. This checker uses the margins for normal posts.
