How to make a birthday video with photos, clips and music
Make a birthday video from many photos and clips: their name in the first second, the best laughs, the candles as the big moment, wishes from friends and music that fits.

The short answer
A birthday video works when it is clearly theirs: their name in the first second, their people and their laugh, and one big moment, such as the candles going out, the age reveal or everyone shouting happy birthday at once. Keep a party reel to 15 to 25 seconds, and a through-the-years or wishes video to 30 to 60 seconds. Cut on the beat of the music and vary how long each shot stays.
Step by step
Collect clips and photos from everyone
Ask friends and family to send their clips and photos a few days early. Ask for vertical clips, and for wishes of 10 to 20 seconds each, filmed facing a window so the face is lit. For a through-the-years video, collect one or two photos for each age.
Open on their name
The first second shows their face or the cake, with their name as the biggest text on screen, bigger than "happy birthday". Skip the title card: a face makes people watch.
Keep the best moments, not every clip
Laughs, hugs, the singing, the gift, a friend's best sentence. Leave out dark, shaky and soft clips. Eight good moments make a better 20 seconds than every clip squeezed into one minute.
Cut on the beat and vary the lengths
Give each shot two beats to one bar of the music, and give the best laughs the most time. Never an even run of photo, clip, photo, clip: change the lengths with the story and the music.
Build to one big moment
Before the candles, bring the music down for "make a wish". Rush into the blow-out, then slow to about a quarter speed as the flames go out, on a downbeat. Bring the music back with the real cheer. Other big moments: the age reveal, or every friend in one grid shouting happy birthday on the same beat.
End on them with their people
The last shot is the birthday person with the people they love, held for 2 to 3 seconds while the footage keeps moving. Add one line from you, such as "love you, Mom", if you want one.
Birthday video ideas that work
- Party reel: clips of the day, the name over the cake in the first second, the candles going out as the big moment, the real cheer. 15 to 25 seconds.
- Through the years: photos in order from the youngest to now, the year or the age on each one, ending on a clip of them today. Good for 18, 30, 50 and 80. 30 to 60 seconds.
- Wishes from everyone: each friend's clip cut to their best sentence with their name on it, ending on all of them at once. 30 to 60 seconds.
- The funny one: for a friend with a sense of humour, three copies of them dancing in a ripple, or a fake sitcom intro with their best moments.
How to put many videos into one birthday video
Clips from ten phones arrive in different sizes, lengths and colours. These steps make them one video:
- Trim each clip to its best seconds: the laugh, the hug, the one sentence that matters. Most clips need only one to three seconds.
- Put them in an order with a shape: the day or the years first, the big moment near the end, the warmest shot last.
- Put every clip in one frame size. For Stories and Reels that is 9:16. Reframe wide clips around the face, so nobody is cut off.
- Give every clip the same colour grade, so phone clips from different friends look like one video.
- Keep the real sound where it matters: the singing, a laugh, a wish. Bring the music down under it, then back up.
- Put the music under the whole video and cut each clip on its beat.
How Vidova makes one
Upload all the clips and photos at once, and tell your AI video team whose birthday it is, the age and what kind of video you want. It finds the best seconds in each clip and the exact moment the flames go out, plans each shot and builds the video on a real timeline. When its birthday party or photo dump template fits, it starts from it and fills it with your footage.
It cuts on the beat of music it makes for the length, or of the song you give it, and keeps the real singing with the music lowered under it. It slows the candles with AI slow motion, so the slowed footage stays smooth. It can change the room as the flames go out, filling it with floating paper lanterns while the breath goes on, or bring the youngest photo gently to life. It reframes wide clips to 9:16 around the face, captions the wishes word by word with each friend's name, and checks the cut before it hands it to you. You change anything by asking in plain words.

Frequently asked questions
How long should a birthday video be?
15 to 25 seconds for a party reel. 30 to 60 seconds for a through-the-years video or a video of wishes from friends. Cut anything that repeats: a shorter video gets watched to the end.
How do I make a birthday video with multiple videos?
Trim each clip to its best seconds, put them in an order that builds to the big moment, make them one frame size and one colour, and cut them on the beat of one song. In Vidova, you upload every clip at once and say whose birthday it is. It does these steps and you ask for changes.
How many photos do I need?
For a party reel, about eight good moments. For a through-the-years video of about 45 seconds, 15 to 25 photos, one or two for each age or era, in order from the youngest.
What music should I use?
A bright track with a clear beat for a party, and piano with strings for a through-the-years video. For a video you post, use music you have the rights to or music made for the video. YouTube says that buying a song does not give you the right to upload it. Vidova can make a track that fits the length, with its big hit on the candles.
Can friends who live far away be in it?
Yes. Ask each one to film 10 to 20 seconds of wishes, vertical, facing a window. Vidova cuts each clip to its best sentence, puts the friend's name on it, and can end on all of them in one grid shouting happy birthday on the same beat.
Can I make a birthday video for free?
You can start free in Vidova. The free plan makes videos up to one minute, which fits a party reel, and exports at 720p with a Vidova watermark. Paid plans start at $19 a month, remove the watermark and export up to 4K at 60 fps.
