The short answer
A car dealership video sells cars when it shows one real car from the lot and answers a buyer's questions on camera. Film a walkaround with a salesperson, cut to close-ups of each feature they name, and caption every word. Post delivery videos only with the buyer's consent, cover license plates, and show only a price any buyer can actually pay.
Step by step
Pick one car and one reason to post
A new arrival, a clean trade-in, a model people ask about. One car per video. The first second shows that car, moving or with the camera moving past it.
Film a walkaround with a salesperson
Start at the front corner, walk once around the car, open the doors, sit in and start it. The salesperson talks to the camera as if a buyer were there: what the car is, what it has and who it suits. Film it in one take, with the phone held steady.
Cut to every feature they name
When the salesperson says "heated seats" or "third row", cut to a close-up of it for one or two seconds. Captions carry every word, with the feature name in large text.
Give the car a reveal
Show the car at its best once: a slow pass along the side in evening light, the door opening, the headlights coming on. Rush into the moment, then slow it down.
Cover plates and private details
Cover the license plate on every customer car and trade-in, and anything with a name or a number on it, such as paperwork on a seat.
Show only real prices and full terms
If the video names a price, it is the full price a buyer can pay, apart from taxes and other government charges. If it names a monthly payment, it shows the full credit or lease terms too. The FTC section below has the details.
End on the car and how to see it
Close on the car, your dealership name and one action: book a test drive, call or send a message. Post the vertical cut and keep a 16:9 version for YouTube and your website.
What makes a dealership video sell cars
Buyers look at cars online before they visit a lot. A video lets them see the real car, hear a real person describe it and decide that it is worth the trip. It works best when it is about one car on your lot, filmed honestly, with a clear way to come and see it.
- One real car, shown in the first second.
- A person from the dealership talking, so buyers know who they will meet.
- Close-ups of the features people ask about: the screen, the seats, the cargo space, the tires.
- Captions on every word, for people who watch with the sound off.
- The real price, or no price.
Car dealership video ideas for TikTok and Reels
- Walkaround: one car and one salesperson, once around the car and inside it, in 30 to 60 seconds.
- Just arrived: the car coming off the truck or rolling onto the lot, then the reveal.
- Delivery day: the buyer gets the keys, with their consent.
- One feature explained: how the parking camera, the third row or the trailer hitch works, in 15 seconds.
- Two trims side by side: what the higher trim adds, shot by shot.
- The night reveal: a sports car or a new model in a dark garage with moving light.
- Meet the team: a salesperson or a service advisor in ten seconds.
- Service tip: a technician shows one check owners can do at home.
Delivery videos and the buyer's consent
A delivery video shows a real buyer getting the keys. Ask before you film, ask again before you post, and show their face, name or voice only if they say yes. If they prefer to stay off camera, film the car, the keys and the drive off the lot.
Never script a buyer to say something that did not happen to them. The FTC's Consumer Reviews and Testimonials Rule, in effect since October 21, 2024, covers testimonials that misrepresent a person's experience with a product or service (FTC questions and answers on the rule).
Cover license plates and private details
Cover the license plate on every customer car, every trade-in and every car in the background of a shot. Check for paperwork on a seat and a phone screen with messages on the dash too. Vidova finds plates, labels, cards and screens and covers each one as the car moves, and the free license plate blur tool does the same for a single video.
Prices and offers in dealer videos: what the FTC says
In the US, a price in a dealer video is an ad, and the FTC's rules on dealer ads apply to it. In September 2026 the FTC published Automobile Industry Pricing Transparency: FAQs for dealers. The main points, checked October 2026:
- The advertised price is the actual price any buyer can walk in and pay. Only charges that a government requires, such as taxes, stay out of it.
- Every mandatory fee goes into that price, including the full document fee.
- You can show the MSRP, a discount or a rebate, but the actual price must be the most prominent amount. The FAQs say that prominence is not limited to font size.
- The advertised price cannot be built around a discount or a rebate that only some buyers get.
- The rules cover dealer and third-party websites, social media, print ads and roadside signs.
- A car in transit or at another location can be in an ad when the ad plainly says so. Do not advertise a car that has already been paid for and delivered.
- For a used car, buyers expect the picture to show the exact car, so film the car you are selling.
In March 2026 the FTC sent warning letters to 97 auto dealership groups. The letters said that advertised prices must be the total price, including all mandatory fees, that buyers will be required to pay.
A monthly payment in a video brings in more rules. Under Regulation Z (12 CFR 1026.24(d)), a credit ad that states a down payment, the number of payments, the amount of a payment or a finance charge must also state the down payment, the terms of repayment and the annual percentage rate. Under Regulation M (12 CFR 1013.7(d)), a lease ad that states a payment, or an amount due at signing, must also say that it is a lease and state the total due at signing, the number, amounts and due dates of the payments, whether a security deposit is required, and, for some leases, that an extra charge may apply at the end of the lease.
State laws on document fees apply too, and the FTC's FAQs cover how dealers comply with both. When you ask Vidova for a price slate, give it the full price and the full terms. Your AI video team puts on screen only the prices and terms you give it.
How Vidova makes one
Send your AI video team the walkaround clip, a few close-ups and the car's details. It cuts the pauses and filler words from the talk, adds word-by-word captions with the feature names in large text, and cuts to a close-up each time a feature is named. It reframes a 16:9 clip to 9:16 by tracking the car or the salesperson, ramps the speed into the reveal, slows the moment down with AI slow motion and covers license plates. It previews frames and checks the cut before it hands it to you.
With the salesperson's permission, it can also make a Spanish or other-language version of the walkaround in their own voice, with their lips matched to the new words. Get the vertical reel and a 16:9 cut for YouTube and your website from the same project.

Frequently asked questions
What videos should a car dealership post on TikTok?
Walkarounds of single cars, new arrivals, delivery days with the buyer's consent, one feature explained, and short team introductions. Each video is about one car or one person, filmed on your lot.
How long should a car walkaround video be?
30 to 60 seconds for TikTok, Reels and Shorts. A full walkaround for YouTube or the car's page on your website can run 2 to 5 minutes.
Do I need the buyer's permission for a delivery video?
Ask every time, before you film and before you post. Show their face and name only if they agree. If they say no, film the car and the keys without them.
Should I blur license plates in dealership videos?
Yes, on customer cars, trade-ins and any car in the background. Cover paperwork and screens with personal details too.
Can I show prices in my car videos?
Yes. In the US, the FTC says the advertised price must be the actual price any buyer can pay, with every mandatory fee included and only government charges such as taxes left out. A monthly payment needs the credit or lease terms in the same ad.
Can I make dealership videos without editing skills?
Yes. In Vidova you upload the walkaround clip and say which car it is. Your AI video team cuts the talk, adds captions, close-ups, music and the reveal, covers the plates and checks the cut. You ask for changes in plain words.
