Vidova vs Captions

Captions edits talking videos with AI styles, avatars and dubbing. Vidova lets an AI agent edit any footage on a timeline. Compare AI editing, MCP, exports and pricing.

Updated Facts checked

Vidova

People who want an AI agent to do the editing on a real timeline, in the browser or from Claude, Cursor and other MCP clients.

Captions

Creators and marketers who make talking-head videos and want one-tap AI edits, AI actors and dubbing on iPhone or the web.

The short answer

Captions, made by Mirage, is an AI editor for talking videos. AI Edit turns one speaker into a styled clip, and paid plans add chat editing, AI actors, AI Twins and dubbing in a cloned voice. Vidova is built around an AI agent that edits any footage, such as products, events or music, on a multitrack timeline. Choose Captions for talking heads and avatars. Choose Vidova for other footage, MCP and handoff to Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve.

  • You want eye contact correction, and dubbing into more than 30 languages in your own cloned voice.

How the AI editing differs

Captions has two AI editing modes. AI Edit takes one clip, applies an editing style and adds captions, B-roll, transitions and music. Its help center says AI Edit works best on a video of 3 minutes or less with one person talking, and limits it to 2 minutes on iPhone and 1 minute on the web. Chat-based editing, on Max and above, changes the project from a typed request. On the web you can pick timeline elements, add notes on the video and set an effort level from Low to Ultra.

Vidova's agent works from your own clips, photos and audio, with one speaker, many or none. It cuts on the beat, builds product ads, recaps and music edits, reframes 16:9 footage to 9:16 by tracking a face, and slows footage down with AI frame interpolation. Every edit lands on a multitrack timeline that you can change by hand. Before it hands over the cut, the agent previews frames of its work and runs a quality check.

Talking videos, AI actors and dubbing

This is where Captions is strongest. Prompt to Video generates a talking video from a prompt, with an AI actor or your AI Twin, at 16 credits for every 6 seconds. AI Dubbing translates speech into more than 30 languages in a cloned voice, and eye contact correction fixes a speaker who reads from a script. The iPhone app also has a camera with a teleprompter.

Vidova can clone a person's voice from a clean stretch of their speech and lip-sync them to a new line, also in another language. If your channel is built on AI presenters and avatars, Captions has more tools for that work.

Editing from Claude, ChatGPT and other agents

We found no MCP server for Captions. Its maker, Mirage, offers Tesseract, a separate tool for AI agents. It installs as a plugin for ChatGPT and Codex or as skills for other coding agents, edits and renders on your own computer, and saves its own project files. We found no way for it to open projects from the Captions app.

Vidova's hosted MCP server at mcp.vidova.ai/mcp lets Claude, Cursor, VS Code and Codex open and edit your Vidova projects after one sign-in.

Frequently asked questions

Is Captions free?

Yes, Captions has a free version with basic tools such as trim, zoom, transitions and captions in one template. AI Edit, chat-based editing and AI image and video generation need Max, which costs $24.99 a month for iOS plans (checked October 2026). Vidova also has a free plan. Its exports carry a watermark, export at 720p and 30 fps, and projects can be up to 1 minute long.

Does Captions add a watermark?

Paid plans export without a watermark. On the free plan, edits made with free tools export without one. If a project uses features from a higher plan, Captions exports it with a watermark. Vidova's free plan adds a watermark to every export, and paid plans from $19 a month remove it.

Is Captions the same as Mirage?

Mirage is the company that makes Captions. Captions is its video app, and Mirage Studio is now part of Captions. Mirage also makes Tesseract, a tool for AI agents, and video APIs for developers.

Does Captions work on Windows?

Captions has no Windows app. On a PC you use Captions on the web in your browser. There are apps for iPhone, Android (Captions Lite) and, since July 2026, Mac. Vidova also runs in the browser, and its desktop app for Mac, Windows and Linux records your screen and edits locally.

Is Vidova a good alternative to the Captions app?

Yes, if your videos are more than one person talking, or if you want Claude or Cursor to edit them. Vidova's agent edits any footage on a timeline and exports to Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve. For talking heads, AI actors and dubbing, Captions has more one-tap tools.
