Templates or an agent

Canva starts from design. You pick a template or a blank video, drag clips onto a layered timeline, and add text, stock, music and animations. Magic Video makes this faster: you upload 1 to 10 clips or photos, write a prompt, and it trims, styles and sequences them into a 60-second vertical video. Its help center lists limits: clips must be under 10 minutes, auto-framing is not supported yet, and replacing a clip does not make a new layout.

Vidova starts from your request. You upload footage and describe the video, for example a product ad cut on the beat of a song. The agent plans the edit, cuts and arranges the clips on a multitrack timeline, adds captions and music, then previews frames and runs a quality check. You can change any clip by hand or ask for changes in plain words.

Downloads, watermarks and limits

Canva's free plan is generous for downloads. Free accounts download MP4 videos up to 30 minutes long at 1080p, and Canva adds a watermark only when a free account uses Pro or paid elements. Canva Pro, Teams, Nonprofit and Education accounts download MP4 videos up to 2 hours long at 4K, on desktop. Canva downloads video as MP4 or GIF.

Vidova's free plan has tighter limits. Its previews and exports carry a watermark, export at 720p and 30 fps, and projects can be up to 1 minute long. Paid plans start at $19 a month, remove the watermark and the length limit, and export MP4 up to 4K at 60 fps. Vidova also exports an editable timeline: FCPXML for Premiere Pro and OTIO for DaVinci Resolve.

Using Canva or Vidova from Claude

Canva's AI Connector is an MCP server that works in Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot, Cursor and other assistants. It can generate, create, find, edit, resize, copy and export designs, including an MP4 of an animated design. Canva's list of actions does not include cutting or arranging clips on a video timeline.

Vidova's hosted MCP server at mcp.vidova.ai/mcp lets Claude, Cursor, VS Code and Codex open and edit your Vidova video projects after one sign-in.

Frequently asked questions

Is Canva's video editor free?

Yes. A free Canva account can edit video on a layered timeline, add captions, use Magic Video and download MP4 files up to 30 minutes long at 1080p. Tools such as Highlights, Auto-trim, background removal and Magic Resize need a paid plan. Canva Pro costs $18 a month, or $144 a year, in the US (checked October 2026).

Does Canva add a watermark to videos?

Only in one case. Canva says a free account exports videos without a watermark as long as it uses free elements, footage and music. A watermark appears when a free account adds Pro or paid elements. Vidova's free plan adds a watermark to every export, and paid plans remove it.

Can Canva export 4K video?

Yes, on paid plans. Canva Pro, Teams, Nonprofit and Education accounts download MP4 videos up to 2 hours long at 3840 x 2160, on desktop. Free accounts download up to 1080p. Vidova exports up to 4K at 60 fps on paid plans.

Can Claude edit my Canva videos?

Claude connects to Canva through Canva's AI Connector, and can create, find, edit and export designs. Canva's list of actions does not include cutting clips on a video timeline. Vidova's MCP server lets Claude open and edit Vidova video projects.

Is Vidova a good free alternative to Canva's video editor?

Vidova fits when you want an agent to make the edit from your own footage. You can start free, but the free plan adds a watermark, exports at 720p and limits projects to 1 minute. If you need long free downloads with no watermark, Canva's free plan gives you more.
