The short answer

Make Meta and TikTok video ads vertical. Meta's Ads Guide asks for 9:16 at 1440 × 2560 pixels for Facebook and Instagram Reels and Stories, 9:16 at 1080 × 1920 for Instagram Feed and 4:5 at 1440 × 1800 for Facebook Feed. Use MP4 or MOV, H.264 and AAC audio, up to 4 GB. TikTok takes 9:16 video from 540 × 960, up to 500 MB and 10 minutes.

Key takeaways

  • Meta Reels and Stories: 9:16 at 1440 × 2560, MP4 or MOV, H.264, stereo AAC at 128 kbps or more, 4 GB at most.
  • Facebook Feed: 4:5 at 1440 × 1800, from 1 second to 241 minutes.
  • Meta safe zone on Reels and Stories: keep 14% of the top, 35% of the bottom and 6% of each side free of text and logos.
  • TikTok in-feed: 9:16 at 540 × 960 or more, up to 10 minutes and 500 MB, at least 516 kbps. TikTok gives its safe zone as files to download.

Rules that apply across these placements:

  • File: MP4 or MOV on every placement, and GIF on every placement except Instagram Reels.
  • Video: H.264, square pixels, fixed frame rate and progressive scan. The Instagram Feed page does not list these settings.
  • Audio: stereo AAC at 128 kbps or more. Sound is optional on every placement and strongly recommended for Reels.
  • File size: 4 GB at most.
  • Minimum size: 120 × 120 pixels for Facebook Feed, 250 pixels wide for Stories and Instagram Feed. Instagram Reels ads need 250 pixels wide under 30 seconds and 500 pixels wide from 30 seconds.
  • Containers: no edit lists or special boxes in the file.

Meta safe zones for Reels and Stories

On Facebook Reels, Facebook Stories, Instagram Stories and Instagram Reels, the Ads Guide says to leave about 14% of the top, 35% of the bottom and 6% on each side free of text, logos and other key elements. The profile icon and the call-to-action button sit there.

Source: TikTok Auction In-Feed Ads. TikTok's video advertising guide adds three recommendations: export at 1080 × 1920 or higher, use 9:16 video for full-screen impact and keep most ads at 21 to 34 seconds.

TikTok does not publish safe zone margins in pixels. Its specs page says the safe zone depends on the ratio, the caption length and any extra formats such as anchors. It offers safe zone files to download, in standard and Arabic layouts, with and without anchors. Lay the right file over your video before you upload.

One ad for Meta and TikTok

One 9:16 master covers most placements: Facebook and Instagram Reels and Stories, Instagram Feed and TikTok. Export it at 1440 × 2560 for Meta. It is above TikTok's 1080 × 1920 recommendation, so TikTok takes the same file.

Make a second 4:5 version at 1440 × 1800 for Facebook Feed. Keep all text inside Meta's safe zone in both.

Keep the file under 500 MB for TikTok. A 30-second ad at 1440 × 2560, 30 fps and about 14 Mbps is close to 55 MB. Ad lengths are in how long a video ad should be.

Make both versions in Vidova

Vidova's AI agent edits your clips on a timeline and can reframe each shot by tracking a face or a product, so the 4:5 version keeps the subject in frame. Vidova keeps versions of a project, so each size stays as its own cut.

Example brief
Make two versions of this ad. First 9:16 at 1440 × 2560 for Reels, Stories and TikTok, then 4:5 at 1440 × 1800 for Facebook Feed. Track the product in every shot. Keep the logo, the price and the offer out of the top 14%, the bottom 35% and 6% on each side.

On a vertical project the 1440p export is 1440 × 2560 in H.264 with AAC audio, which matches Meta's specs. You can start free. Paid plans start at $19 a month, remove the watermark and export up to 4K at 60 fps.
